Trusting in God...learning to let go

I used to worry about my girlfriend as she travelled around the world for her job. I used to get her itinery and track he flights on the numerous flight and airport websites. Then after a while she stopped sharing her itinery and I would get upset. Then I figured it was all in God's hands. I would be too far away to do anything and worrying would not do me any good. I started to learn to let go and leave it in God's hands. Trust in him to take care of her and bring her back home safely.

There are things in this life that we do not have any control of or we can do nothing about. We need to learn not to carry all on our shoulders and to let go. Give our trust to God that all things he gives for our good.

Joshua 3:15-16 Leap of faith

Joshua 3:15-16

"As soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away."

God always teaches us about faith and trust by directing us down a path we think is too hard to travel - into circumstances we don't understand. After all, if we could clearly see and understand, there wouldn't be a need for faith. But we often miss the opportunity to experience the true glory of God because we fail to obey and take the first step.

Sometimes we get plunged into a situation far beyond our control, just like the people of Japan these few days with the earthquake and tsunami devastating the country. We may not need such an extreme event. It may be a new job, a new investment ...but faith means trusting in God to lead us to some where safe, some where good. Are we willing to get out of our comfort zone and to take the first step...the leap of faith.

Numers 20:12 - God's perfect plan

"Because you did not trust in Me enough to honor Me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them" (Numbers 20:12).  God's perfect plan for Moses clearly included a trip into the Promised land; but, even after 40 years of faithful leadership, Moses' lack of trust caused him to miss out on God's very best.

Sometimes we feel that we are heading through a rough patch and that we cannot see the plan laid out for us. Even Moses with all his experience sometimes doubted God's direction, what more we "youngsters" ! We need to have faith that God has a plan for us and he will not lead down the wrong path.

Thank God for keeping my mum safe

Thank God for keeping my safe today when she slipped and fell while doing her gardening. She knocked her head on the concrete slap which is on the side of our driveway. As usual all the reminders not to do certain things were ignored. When we cannot protect the ones we love, we need to trust in God's plans that he will take care of them for us. Somethings are just out of our hands...Trust is something we need to learn.
